Summer Spectacular - Racing

Hello sports fans and welcome to the Herman and Ophelia Summer Spectacular. Things have been behind schedule, but now we’re up and running. Things kicked off with a massive pit-party showcase of all our trucks, including the good number of trucks from Washington. Bearing their green flags, these trucks all have high hopes in our competitions to come. But that is not to rule out the standard Kansas trucks. On the note of multiple state trucks, I must now mention that some trucks have new names with the introduction of several duplicates from Washington. SoBe, our November Nationals winner, is now known as SoBe KS, because of the new Washington SoBe, SoBe WA. So whenever you see a “KS” or a “WA” behind the name of the truck, this isn’t a special, new version of the truck, it is simply a duplicate. Now that we have that cleared up, let’s get on to the first round of racing eliminations!!!

And that concludes the horrendously long first round. It literally took hours to complete the entire schedule of races for just round one. Now you may have noticed a peculiar name in there somewhere. That was Monsterosity. Our very first custom truck. Unfortunately, the reason why he lost his very first race, was a roll that loosened the screw holding he body on, and sent it flying across the room. The screw was never found, and the body is currently not on the truck. Pictures will be available of the frame, and of the detached body soon. A paint-job change is underway. This truck may become our custom USA-1, as it was originally intended to be. “Monsterosity” is the only name that fits the truck, as you can see. We have been working extensively on custom trucks the past few days, and have produced our second custom truck, “Strict Machine”, named after one of our favorite songs. These truck, and some we still have in the works were not complete in time to compete, but we assure you, next time, you will see them in action. That was the much more bearable second round. Not included in our competition, but just as notable, are some older trucks we dug up out of my shed. There were about a dozen of the things. Including Super Show Rods (Pictured above) and an old Bearfoot truck, and several unnamed ones, pictured below. We will start up a section on these older trucks as soon as we can. But for right now, there is still a lot of racing, and the entire jump-off competition left to go. So now, without more of my talking, let’s continue the racing with round three!

In addition to the bigger monster trucks of old that we have been collecting out of my shed, we also found some smaller additions to our collection. Some vintage Bigfoot merchandise, including this small blue truck, a black Bigfoot Shuttle, and a Bigfoot 5 –esque red shuttle.


























We’re not sure on the origin of these trucks, but we do know that they aren’t very new and are probably our very first monster trucks, collected years before I met Ophelia, and an even longer time before the two of us came into monster truck collecting as a couple. These trucks won’t have their own league due to their age and small number, but we will be sure to include them in some form on the website. Now on to round four!

We had crowned a new champion, who had a very complicated rise to success. SoBe WA is the first Washington truck to win a championship, the first duplicate to win a championship, the first regular Hot Wheels truck to win in racing, and won against the biggest lineup of trucks ever to compete in a single event. This is a great achievement, and only makes the SoBe team all the better after their in November at the hands of the Kansas SoBe. Now the only thing left to do was to go into the jump-off tournament and crown a champion. Little did we know that tournament would set records of its own, including being the first event of ours to be held outdoors.
