Turkey Day Bash '03

Hello again sports fans, and welcome to the 2003 Thanksgiving exhibition match. The trucks competing tonight are handpicked for their superior skill and competitiveness. The best trucks out of the entire circuit are participating in the spirit of the Holiday, and also the countdown to Christmas day, when the December series finals will be held. With a set of sixteen of the best trucks competing tonight, it is sure to be one of the best shows of the sport. A lot of the trucks have a lot to prove here tonight. Gun Slinger, the winner of the September-October series has his reputation to back up, as does the legendary Blacksmith. Newcomer SoBe has her win of the November Nationals to defend. Virginia Giant has the reputation of a fan favorite to uphold. This, and much more will come into play tonight at this event.

We begin round one with the extremely rare Bell Truck. To provide some interesting trivia, this truck was only available in the Bell Helmet pack. Thusly its name. This truck is not part of the Hot Wheels Monster Jam line. However, it is the same mold as any of the ‘van’ trucks, and is the same scale as the others also. This makes the truck a true collector’s item. But tonight it isn’t behind glass – it’s on the course and staging for its run. The green light is given and the truck goes into the air. He comes down to the ground on his side and runs on two wheels for a bit before spinning out and coming to a halt lying on his side. The Bell Truck, however rare, has suffered from a bad fluke tonight and lies defeated in 16th.

Not discouraged in the slightest by a truck with the same molding having a poor run, Scarlet Bandit stages for her run. Scarlet Bandit suffers from a stiff wheel that doesn’t allow her to run smoothly. However, by a stroke of luck, this handicap has become the driving force behind her success in contests such as these. The lights go green and Scarlet Bandit flies forward. The truck comes down with a solid landing, but goes onto its back two wheels. For most trucks, this would not be a problem, but Scarlet Bandit has the aforementioned wheel problem. The left rear tire locks up and the truck rolls onto its side. It flops around a few times before coming to a rest on its side. Scarlet Bandit suffers the same fate as the Bell Truck, and will finish in 15th place her tonight.

Next up is SoBe Suzuki. This truck has the best possibility to rival legends Gun Slinger and Blacksmith. The yellow and green truck thunders out of the pit area and to the staging area. The signal goes green and SoBe goes flying through the air. She comes down in a wheelie and rides it out until her front tires return to the earth. A perfect run. SoBe comes to a stop, to the applause of the audience. She’ll advance to the next round.

The next truck up, Wolverine New Style, hopes for a similar run to SoBe’s. The gray and Black truck stages. The truck’s massive claws, signature of the character it represents, look imposing as it waits for the light to go green. Within seconds they click over and the massive truck roars to life. He comes down from the ramp with a solid landing, flying through the landing zone and towards the end of the run area. Suddenly, the truck starts to wobble. Nearly going over, the truck rocks back and forth, but loses momentum and comes to a stop on all four wheels before he has a chance to rock over onto one side. Wolverine New Style will advance to round two.

The next truck up is part of the classic nineteen and needs no introduction. Avenger rolls up to the staging area and prepares to begin his run. Avenger is the same mold as the now infamous SoBe, which leads many of our theorists to believe that body type has a lot of affect on how a truck is to perform. The lights go as green as the truck’s paint and Avenger roars over the ramp. He comes down with a soft landing, bouncing a few times before coming to a peaceful stop. Another wonderful run.

Avenger returns to the pits as Madusa stages for her run. This is the only remaining truck of the “wrestling” stage that the sport went through. This brought about such incredibly rare trucks as Sting, Goldberg, and Nitro Machine. Nitro Machine went on to become Inferno, and then Flashfire. Madusa is the only one of the trucks that we are in possession of, making her the only one of her kind in our collection. The lights go green and Madusa’s run is underway. She comes down with a landing similar to Avenger’s, but a few bounces in, her front tire comes down on an awkward angle and the truck flips into the air. It flips and spins in the air and comes to a rest facing the opposite direction. Madusa will finish in 14th at tonight’s Thanksgiving Bash.

The next truck up is the only cat in tonight’s competition. The orange tiger, Prowler, comes up to the ramp. Predator and Prowler are the only two cat trucks in our circuit, and in real life. Prowler has thus far outshone its older counterpart in our competitions, earning it a place here tonight. The orange truck takes the line and the lights go green. The truck flies over the ramp and through the air. It comes down into a wheelie and rides it until the truck loses speed. The truck ends its run on its tailgate, and will advance to the next round. Another great run from the cat family of trucks.

The next truck up is another of the classic nineteen and the winner of the September-October series. The mighty Gun Slinger. The red truck takes the line. Everyone is expecting a lot out of this truck. With such a highbrow reputation for winning, its low rank at the November Nationals was crushing. Tonight is a chance for Gun Slinger to challenge SoBe and prove his superiority. However, it depends on how well SoBe will take it. And noting her performance thus far, she won’t give it up easily. The lights go green on Gun Slinger, snapping us out of this brief pause in the action. There is no truck quite like Gun Slinger in how it flows over the ramp. The red truck seems to float over the ramp, coming down without a sound or a falter. Effortlessly completing its run. He means business here tonight, and will advance to the next round. To follow up this amazing run, is Bulldozer.

If Gun Slinger is perfect, then Bulldozer is on his heels. The truck roars over the ramp and comes down with just a slight bounce. Cruising coolly by the rest of the trucks waiting to run, and coming to a stop at the end of the run. The crowd cheers. Tonight will be a battle if there ever was one. Bulldozer will advance to round two, and will now be followed up by fellow bull, El Toro Loco.

Bulldozer’s fiery younger sibling definitely came from the same pasture as its older counterpart. With just a few more jolts that Bulldozer, El Toro Loco bumps down the alley and the landing zone coming to a stop toward the end of the course. An expertly done run, in the same fashion as the one we just saw.

Thus far we have only seen three eliminations. With over half of the trucks having run, and the best yet to come, this is already shaping up to be a tournament for the record books. Next up, we have the third place ranked Tuff-E-Nuff. This truck was the biggest underdog of the September-October series, and hopes to continue this trend with this, the first post-November Nationals event. Despite it being an exhibition, it will still speak volumes. The silver truck stages for its run. The lights go green and Tuff E Nuff thunders across the ramp and into the air. He comes down with a soft thud, and goes into a big slap wheelie. He rides it for a few seconds and then comes back down on all four wheels. A great run. He’ll advance to round two.

The next truck up is agreed by many to be one of the prettiest trucks on our circuit. Virginia Giant has come into this contest as a fan favorite, and must find a way to uphold this. The truck lines up and blasts over the ramp. It is apparent when he bounces to high after landing, that something isn’t going right. He comes back down on one wheel and flies back into the air again. He comes back down on his tailgate and rocks back over onto his lid. Virginia Giant will rank 13th here tonight, with a good deal of disappointed fans in the audience. But in the wake of Virginia Giant’s accident, comes a shining star to the community – King Krunch. This truck has its good days and bad days, and is hoping that this the evening of a good one.

Representing the massive state of Texas, the equally gigantic King Krunch takes the line. The lights go green for the truck, and he takes to the air like a bird. The truck soars through the air and finally comes back down to earth. With a few bounces, the truck finally comes to a stop on all four wheels. Another great run for the truck. His advance will now bring us to possibly the most famous truck on our circuit.

The legendary Blacksmith takes the line. This truck has been the highest winning truck in our circuit’s history, and hopes to defend his reputation here tonight. The back old styled pickup truck watches the lights. 3…2…1…Green. The truck roars to life and takes off. With more grace than seen before here tonight, Blacksmith soars. He comes back to the ground without even a rattle. He quietly coasts down the landing zone and comes to a stop over by the lot of non-participating trucks. A great run for Blacksmith, bringing us to the second to last truck to compete in round one – Blue Thunder.

Built Ford Tough Blue Thunder takes the line in tonight’s tournament. The line goes green and the truck blasts over the line. After a split second in the air, Blue Thunder comes back down to earth and, with a wobbly but good run, comes to a stop. Blue Thunder will advance to the next round. With that run, there is only one truck left to run in the first round. Possibly the most unique body style on the circuit today – Great Bite.

The shark truck is flying through the air before anyone can blink. With marvelous speed it comes down to the ground. However, it rocks back into a wheelie. Its tail catches on the ground and the truck is thrown over onto its side. Great Bite lies beaten and defeated on the track after a freak accident. Great Bite will finish 12th in our Turkey Day exhibition match. With that, we conclude round one. Only five trucks have been eliminated. Eleven trucks will go into the second round. These are quite possibly the best eleven trucks that any individual race will harbor. A show-off for who is the king (or queen) of the sport, is about to begin in round two.
